I have discovered something rather inconvenient about having choices. Sometimes, having a choice is much harder than simply getting on with things.
I am, in principle, a great believer in choice. I genuinely believe that we always have some degree of agency, even when our options are not particularly glamorous.
One of my favourites: whether to take the left turn and go down the road I know, even though the road is absolutely dreadful, or take the right and turn the journey into an adventure.
The left turn is familiar. I know where it leads. I know the potholes, the bends and roughly how long it will take.
The right turn is a possibility. It might be wonderful or turn into a complete disaster.
And then I started looking at flats, and found out what happens when both roads are perfectly nice.
