Grown using only fertilizers we make ourselves, never any herbicides at all and use biodynamic intercropping for pest and disease control. the only thing we ever spray is garlic juice for mold and mildew.

Ours are the biggest Elephant Garlic in the EU with our cloves averaging 70g. Our biggest clove this year was 243g and our biggest bulb was 1.35kg.

How do we do it?

Mid August: We lay down 5cm of old cow manure from our neighbors from last year which has been composted onsite for 12 months, with biochar mixed through and sprinkle a fine layer of worm castings including tens of thousands of cocoons.

then cover it for 8 weeks to let the worms and microbes get to work.

Mid October: we sow direct into the ground 20cm x 20cm, 5 rows to 1m wide bed.

We begin to prepare the spring feed by making a special compost combining hard wood ash from the summer BBQ’s and smoker, the strim from a large comfrey patch, nettles, seaweed powder from the local beach scourers, a few shovels of fresh manure and a few of wood shavings.

in the first warm week of spring, usually early march, we line dress the special compost mix. between the rows.

Harvest comes when the plants are ready, any time from mid June to end of July. (this year was quite late due to a cool spring)
